"Luxury Redefined: Beyond Fabric to Ethical and Conscious Choices"
Written by: Marina Townsend
The phrase has been echoing in my mind, following me like a shadow that refuses to fade away. It's as if the algorithm behind the scenes has tapped into my innermost thoughts, capturing every relevant search and reflecting it back to me. There's a mystique to this concept, an allure that beckons those who seek more than just flashy labels and fleeting trends.
Quiet luxury in particular has been a subject of endless debate, but to me, it embodies something simple yet profound. It's clothing crafted to the highest standards, tailored to perfection, where minimal effort yields maximum results. It goes beyond the superficial aspects of fashion, delving into the realm of craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
Who the designer is becomes secondary in the presence of true luxury. What truly matters is the unmistakable quality that radiates from each piece and the carefully curated details that whisper elegance and sophistication. In a world filled with noise and pretentious displays, quiet luxury stands out by speaking for itself. When a designer consistently delivers timeless, meticulously crafted pieces, only then does their name become the driving force.
Many of us aspire to luxury in all aspects of life, from clothing to food to bedding and more. Often, luxury is defined by the price tag, appealing to those unfamiliar with true quality but eager to appear 'rich.' However, if we focus on quiet luxury, we see a different story.

Quiet luxury champions old money aesthetics, emphasising timeless elegance and subtle sophistication. In fashion, this might mean discovering vintage treasures at Portobello Market or finding unique pieces in charity shops with unmatched price tags. It's about more than just appearances; it's about quality. Knowing the brand, understanding the fabrics used, and appreciating the craftsmanship are what truly define luxury. In a world filled with pretentious displays, quiet luxury stands out by prioritising authenticity and meticulous design.
Are you naturally conscious when you shop for luxury items?
Personally, I believe that conscious shopping comes down to the person behind the card and what your definition of conscious actually is. Media has a way of highlighting reasons why we should stay away from brands and the power it holds forces us to take notice. Balenciaga had its time then on
other end of the spectrum you have fast fashion brands like shein. They get cancelled and the campaign begins; clothes and shoes thrown out, burnt, blocked instagram pages, closed accounts and so much more, but only for a short time. The brands if a huge enough scandal, lay low for a while, wait for something new to pop up, then back to regular news.

Do you research a brand before purchasing to ensure they trade ethically? Would it change your mind if they didn’t, even if the item is everything you want and more?
With it being July 2024, luxury is being able to choose a different outfit from the day before, waking up without fear of being blown up, misplaced or searching for food whilst weakly dehydrated. It is interesting to hear the different opinions on subjects like these, but right now, luxury is so much more than fabric.
